| Terrace interior design/build The innovative team of artists & designers at Flux Design were responsible for all of the interior [& most of the exterior] elements at Terrace Bar. Owners David Larson & Nick Howell were looking for a distinctive way to employ minimal materials in a location that demanded a careful & intelligent integration of form & function. Intelligent LED [Color Kinetic] Lighting identify the crisp contemporary building that rises out of a row of Irish pubs on Milwaukeeís Water Street strip, gradually changing the color of the building exterior. Completed in March of 2004, the spot is physically narrow [less than 20 feet across] but walking through the door, the space opens up & feels much larger than it actually is. The steel & concrete tables seem to slip right out of the walls & pulsate with the same lighting effect as the buildingís faÁade. The bars rise out of the floor, beneath dramatic canopies of faux finished plastic, while the liquor shelves pops out of the concrete block walls. The stairs & two sub-level balconies are lined with steel mesh cast in textured translucent plastic that transmits the changing lights & passing figures. Three garage style doors slide open & add to the openness of the space & a breathtaking view of the Milwaukee skyline can be taken in from the rooftop patio. Terrace is a Testament that all of those cramped locations so often overlooked or dismissed can be dramatic & comfortable venues. 1131 N Water St Milwaukee, WI 53202 http://www.terracebar.com *Photos by Rockstar Design **Photos by Todd Dacquisto Photography |
